Veterinary Technician

The Animal Welfare Association in Voorhees, NJ, a 501(c)3 nonprofit HQHV Spay/Neuter, Pet Wellness Clinic, and Adoption Animal Shelter, is seeking to add two (2) enthusiastic, hard-working full time veterinary technicians to our organization. The ideal candidates should have at least one year of experience with a veterinary practice or the equivalent.  Prior experience in a high volume S/N and/or in an animal sheltering setting is preferred.

Objective: Assists with all practices and procedures of medical and surgical support, preparation, monitoring and release of animals. Assess and monitor overall health, provide initial and routine medications and vaccines. Determine basic animal information at time of intake and maintain standards and record keeping as directed by the Clinic/Shelter Veterinarian.

Essential Functions: Duties include but are not limited to animal restraint, anesthetic induction, surgical prep and monitoring, vaccinations, catheter placement, blood draws, prepping surgical packs, animal intakes and support during wellness appointments. Candidate must have proper animal handling and good communication skills. The ability and willingness to communication positively and effectively with staff, volunteers, and clients is a must. Position is approximately 40 hours per week, with some weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.


  • High School graduate required
  • Associate’s degree as veterinary technician preferred, but will consider experience as a substitute
  • One year experience performing veterinary technician duties including spay/neuter
  • Coursework and/or experience in companion animal surgery, preferably spay/neuter
  • Working knowledge of computers and medical software

Staff Veterinarian (Full and Part Time Positions Available)

We are a non-profit with over 40 years of providing high quality, high volume spay/neuter surgery in South Jersey. We have a highly trained and professional support staff that follows high quality medical care protocols. We offer competitive salaries, benefit package that includes a yearly stipend for continuing education and license fees. We have part time and full time opportunities for surgery, seeing patients through our wellness exams and even shelter medicine. We are close to the beaches, Philly, NYC and DC.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties: Perform surgical sterilizations of both shelter and owned animals in a high volume, fast paced environment. See clients for wellness appointments, oversee and perform surgical monitoring, the administration of pre-anesthetic and anesthetic drugs and post-surgical monitoring through discharge. Comply with the applicable state and federal laws established by the New Jersey Veterinary Board of Medical Examiners and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

Veterinarian Requirements: A Degree in Veterinary Medicine from an accredited university of medicine. Obtain veterinary license in the state of NJ. Ideal candidate will have two years experience practicing veterinary medicine and experience with high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) surgeries.  Experience with high volume spay/neuter is preferred but will provide opportunity for training to develop your skills.

Database and Donor Relations Administrator 

The Animal Welfare Association in Voorhees, NJ, a 501(c)3 nonprofit,  is seeking to add a motivated and detailed oriented individual to its Development Team.


· Manage all aspects of donor database including constituent gift entry, record maintenance, and general donor acknowledgement.

o Manage AWA’s online giving process – online appeals, event income, IHO/IMO, general donations, monthly recurring gift process and matching gifts process.

o Enter all incoming cash gifts on a daily basis; generate donor acknowledgement letters for mailing. Track thank You letter responses in Salesforce (SF). Enter in-kind donations and generate donor acknowledgement letters.

o Manage monthly online giving recurring gifts, etc. through Soapbox Engage. Manage data flow from Predictive Response to Salesforce for event revenue.

o Manage and reconcile the bank statements from the bank where all electronic development deposits are made online to include entering the gifts into the database and providing general ledger codes for accounting.

Data Maintenance Add and update AWA constituent records with pertinent contact information as needed. Review for duplication of records.

Globally update constituent records with campaigns/appeal fields and action tracks. Run quarterly (or EOM) duplication records reports.

Data Management Create data reports and export for: AWA mailings (invitations, special appeals, newsletter, etc.) and One and All appeal mailings and suppression lists.

Manage timeline for major mailings and have information ready before the due dates. Import data into Salesforce, and utilize external information about our donors, i.e., Wealth Engine.

Development Accountable for working with the development team to implement a successful annual fund drive.

Donor Communication Answer donor inquires related to online giving/taking credit card information, etc. Responsible for specified donation level thank yous and pet sponsorship acknowledgements.

Gift Processing Systems Set up codes in Salesforce to track donations coming into AWA (campaigns, etc.). Various systems review (Braintree, Soapbox Engage, Paypal and Salesforce) for gift processing issues.

Reports Maintain daily and monthly cash and in-kind gift reports. Track top donors, lapsed donors, appeal reports, accumulative gift reports, planned giving and constituent profile reports for cultivation/stewardship planning.

· College degree preferred

· Highly computer literate/MS Office. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel preferred

· Minimum of 3 years database experience, preferably Salesforce Nonprofit or Raiser’s Edge

· Demonstrated ability to pull and manage data from multiple on-line and in-house record sources

· Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work under the pressure of multiple deadlines

Special Events Internship

Animal Welfare Association seeks a highly motivated and driven individual with an interest or passion for special event planning as well as animal welfare. An ideal candidate would be hard working, resourceful, and able to work independently on assignments. This internship will specifically be focused around the planning and execution of AWA’s annual Paws and Feet fundraiser taking place in May 2020. This intern will be working one on one with the Special Events Manger and will gain hands on event planning experience for a well-respected nonprofit in the community.

Assignments may include:

  • Researching and contacting companies for in-kind donations and raffle baskets
  • Grassroots marketing and papering in local community
  • Assisting with generating social media content for event
  • Coordinating events logistics with Special Events Manager
  • Assisting with writing and dissemination of press releases
  • Contacting and radio stations for event coverage
  • Gathering and organizing event supplies
  • Assisting with the organization of event volunteers and service groups
  • Assist with overseeing event committee
  • Present at event to work alongside events manager
  • Other project as assigned

Dates: February-May

Internship Unpaid – AWA can work with your school to offer college credit. The intern will also receive immeasurable experience as the right hand person to the Special Events Manager as well as the joy and satisfaction of helping animals through this annual fundraiser that benefits homeless animals.
