Meet AWA’s Staff

Our staff oversees award-winning and innovative programs including adoptions, foster care, pet clinic and rehoming
that help more than 15,000 community pets in South Jersey

Please Note: As of August 28, 2019 the Development Team, Volunteer Coordinator, and Executive Director offices are now located at 701 Cooper Road, Suite #11 (this is just behind Rite Aid and across from Hope Church)

Maya Richmond - Executive Director

Maya Richmond was Director of Operations and Program Development for the Maryland SPCA in Baltimore before coming to AWA. She enjoys designing innovative programs like high-volume spay/neuter clinics, earned income ventures, staff development, building new spaces and helping shelters develop sustainable programs and fundraising so they can do more for the community’s needy pets. She shares her home with two cats, two dogs, an understanding husband and their young daughter.

Adoption Center and Shelter

Nanci Urban - Shelter Services Manager

Nanci Keklak manages the AWA shelter facility, pet intake and pet adoptions. She brings 18 years of shelter management experience to AWA, including medical, behavior, adoptions and rescue/transport. Nanci lives with her pets Poppy (French bulldog), Peanut (chihuahua), Leo (Frenchie/shih tzu) and Bugs (cat). Leo and Bugs are AWA alumni!

Elizabeth Stanley-Reicherter CPDT-KA - Behavior Coordinator

Liz is has over seven years’ experience working with animals and has worked previously as head of her own business.   Liz believes strongly in building  relationships between people and their animals because strong interspecific relationships help animals remain in their homes as cherished family members. Liz is a certified member of CCPDT, APDT  and a supporting member of IAABC.

Pet Clinic

Danielle Ready - Clinic Supervisor

Danielle found her calling in 2007 when she joined AWA as an adoption counselor. AWA presented many opportunities for her to learn and grow and she eventually became clinic supervisor. Danielle grew up in Blackwood, NJ and enjoys fishing and crabbing with her dad on Island Beach State Park. Her favorite past times include reading, Star Wars and spending time with her family. Danielle lives with her husband, their four boys, five cats (three of whom are AWA alumni) and their dog Ryder.

Dr. Emily Seidl - Veterinarian

Dr. Seidl received a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Prince Edward Island Atlantic Veterinary College. She became interested in veterinary medicine while working and volunteering in a shelter. The important mission, community involvement and unique case load kept helped solidify her career path. In her spare time, Emily enjoys reading, hiking and bouldering with some cross stitch thrown in!

Dr. Toni Knox - Veterinarian

Dr. Knox received a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. She comes to Animal Welfare Association with over four years of veterinary experience from local Philadelphia area institutions.

Administration and Development

Maria Giorla - Director of Finance and Administration

Maria Giorla comes to AWA with more than 25 years of experience in financial management, which includes accounts payable, payroll, banking, financial reporting/forecasting and cash management. She also has experience managing and directing human resources activities.

Ron Delp - Database and Donor Relations Administrator

Ron joined AWA in 2012. He is responsible for managing the database, processing donations and communicating with donors. Ron works with everyone in the Development Office to provide mailing lists and data. Ron has a degree in Ornamental Horticulture which is evident with the garden above his desk. Ron and his wife Lori have two children, two grandchildren and 3 dogs, “Sadie”, “Bella” and “Lucy”. They live in Leisuretowne in Southampton, NJ.

Sophia Barrett - Special Events and Community Programs Manager

Sophia joined the AWA Development team in March of 2018 with several years of arts non-profit experience. She earned her Master’s in Theater and certificate in Non-Profit Management from Villanova University in 2015. Sophia and her husband Jake live in South Philadelphia and are the proud parents of three rescue pets: their dog, Colonel Teddy, and two cats, Sister Aloysius and Sir Toby.

Shevaun Brannigan - Annual Fund Manager

Shevaun began working for AWA in January 2019, and has previously worked at both national and local animal welfare organizations. She has an MFA in Poetry from Bennington College, as well as a BA in English from University of Maryland. Her pets include a 15 year old cat named Grandpa, and two 4 year old guinea pigs, Ronan and Angus.
